An evening of profound beauty and consolation, Fauré’s luminous Requiem stands at the heart of this program. Celebrated for its gentle transcendence and unique Mass setting, it is among the most beloved choral works in the repertoire. Rounding out the program are Beethoven’s Elegischer Gesang and Brahms’s Vier Gesänge, and Jasmine Barnes’s Portraits: Douglass and Tubman, a stirring choral-orchestral song cycle setting the words of two towering abolitionists in a work of uplift and defiance.
