IMPORTANT TIPS FOR ONLINE BIDDING

There are three main types of online auction items:

1. Highest bidder wins

This is the most familiar type of auction item. Participants bid competitively until the auction closes, at which point the item goes to the highest bidder. Most items in the OSNY Auction are of this type.

2. First (10) bidders win

These are items with multiple winners—from 2 to 20–who all pay the same fixed price. Look for “First (10) bidders win” at the top of the item description.

Bidding ends automatically when all slots are filled. The challenge here is to place a bid before the item is sold out. Don’t wait until the last minute!

3. Top (10) bidders win

These are items with multiple winners who bid competitively. They are marked in the title with the words “Top (10) bidders win.” These are mainly social gatherings with 6 to 12 people.

For these items, each successive bid goes up in small increments of $2, $3, or $5. When bidding closes, the (10) highest bidders win. Be sure to keep checking an item to make sure you have not been outbid!

Please note that if you want to buy two places at an event, you need to bid twice, and if you’re outbid for both places, you need to bid twice again. To buy three places, bid three times, etc.

IMPORTANT

  • Bid increments for events are kept low to avoid a large difference between the highest and lowest bid of the final group of winners. For this reason, we don’t accept bids higher than the specified increments of $2, $3, or $5. If you go over this amount, the bid will be changed manually by an auction administrator and you will be notified by text or email.
  • It is highly recommended that you input your cell phone number into your Profile on Silent Auction Pro. That’s how you can receive texts informing you when you’ve been outbid. The link in the text takes you directly to the item so that you can raise your bid and stay in the running. You will also receive an email message.
  • Finally, it’s not over until it’s over! Keep checking the auction website until the very last minute to make sure that you have not been outbid! You don’t want to lose out!
